The 2024 edition of Bagmati River Festival was held in Kathmandu on Saturday. total of eight rafts were used in the event. The annual event was initiated by Nepal River Conservation Trust (NRCT) in 2024. The Bagmati cleaning campaign was also include and local Friends Club also hosted the event.
According to the organizers, the festival is being organized with the main motto of conserving rivers, promoting rafting, restoring and protecting rivers of Nepal through affirmative action and education, whilst maintaining the cultural integrity of the local riverside communities.
The event highlights the need to awaken the stakeholders concerned and the general public on the status of Bagmati River and seek commitments toward its conservation.

The rafting began on Saturday under the Bagmati River Festival Mahajal Jatra, in collaboration with the Nepal River Conservation Organisation, Friends Club, and the Bagmati cleaning Campaign.
Chakra Bahadur Chand, a social activist involved in the Bagmati Civilisation Campaign, said that regular rafting in Kathmandu is a historic event. social activist chand emphasised the need for government responsibility in river protection, highlighted the potential for rafting in Kathmandu to attract both domestic and foreign tourists.
The annual rafting event in the Bagmati River aims to raise public awareness about preserving the Bagmati civilisation, with hundreds of participants joining each year. Starting 30th july, the public can also participate in rafting from Thapathali to Chobhar for a fixed fee.
