


Chakra Bahadur Chand is a well-known social activist, executive producer, and director of the Karnali international Film Festival. With a dynamic presence in the Nepali film industry, he has also made a mark as an actor in notable films such as Meri Mamu, A Mero Hajur 3, and Prem Geet 3.
With over 27 years of experience in social activism, Chand has been a dedicated voice for environmental preservation, community service, and humanitarian relief efforts. For the past 12 years, he has played a key leadership role in the Bagmati River Cleaning Campaign, the world’s largest and longest-running river cleanup initiative. His impactful leadership in removing thousands of metric tons of waste has earned him recognition as a “social engineer.”
He served as Member Secretary of the 300th Special Ceremony of the Bagmati Sanitation Campaign, organized by the Government of Nepal. He also spearheaded the Mechi-Mahakali Cleaning Campaign, leading efforts in 75 locations nationwide.
Chand is also active in tree plantation drives, organizing environmental programs aimed at promoting sustainable living. His dedication to social causes has earned him numerous honors, including the Social Service Award from the Government of Nepal.
In his public service journey, Chand has held important roles, including Advisor to the Minister of State at the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of Nepal. Internationally, he served as Head of Administration at Reiyukai International’s Euro Asia headquarters in Siliguri, India, and led the Nepal chapter for several years.
Following the 2002 Gujarat earthquake, Chand coordinated a month-long humanitarian relief mission in Ahmedabad and Bhuj, for which he received appreciation from then Chief Minister and current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
After the 2015 Nepal earthquake, he was involved in major relief and reconstruction efforts across 24 districts, rebuilding 25 schools and implementing clean drinking water and health initiatives.
Born in Gurans village, Dailekh, and having started his journey from Nepalgunj, Chand has continuously expanded his reach, delivering support and service across the country. His flood relief work reached over 400 families in Rautahat and Banke, and he contributed to the construction of five schools, eight roads, and five bridges in remote communities.
In recognition of his contributions, he received the Red Carpet Award in Sikkim, India, and the Global Film Award in the United States, celebrating his impact on both the global film scene and the social sector.
A committed blood donor, he has donated blood over 47 times and regularly organizes donation and relief campaigns across Nepal and India.
As Festival Director of the Karnali international Film Festival, Chand continues to promote storytelling and cinema as tools for cultural empowerment and social change.
